Philanthropy

CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, was founded in Seattle, Washington in 1977 by Superior Court Judge David Soukup. Judge Soukup, who was concerned about trying to make decisions on behalf of abused and neglected children without enough information, conceived the idea of appointing community volunteers to speak for the best interests of the children when they were in court. Today, CASA continues to support and promote court appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so that they can live in safe, permanent homes.

Theta Dodgeball

Each year, Omega Thetas host a campus-wide Dodgeball Tournament where fraternities, sororities, and other on-campus student groups compete for the title of Theta Dodgeball Champion. All proceeds go towards CASA.

Service in the Greek Community

As members of not only Theta but of the Cal Greek community at large, we understand the importance of supporting other Greek organizations' community service endeavors. Thetas have participated in or attended various philanthropy events such as Sigma Chi's Derby Days, Beta Theta Pi's Beta Bowl, and Alpha Chi Omega's Runway to name a few.

Omega Thetas regularly participate in Cal Greeks' annual "Trick or Greek" event. Children from local schools come trick-or-treating at houses in the Greek community, including the Theta house. The children also take part in a special Halloween themed activity at each house. It's always a fun and rewarding opportunity to see the smiles on the faces of the children as we help make their Halloween a little more special.

Second Nature

Service is important to every sister of Kappa Alpha Theta. Each semester, Omega Thetas join together to participate in events which have included packing medical supplies to send to an orphanage in Zimbabwe, walking in the annual Relay for Life to benefit cancer research, leading service teams in The Berkeley Project, and giving blood for the Red Cross.
