We are proud to call this four-story mansion - the largest of the 12 Berkeley sorority houses - our Theta home.

An aerial view of our home shows the newest west wing of our house on the left in light grey, known affectionately among Thetas as "New." Also visible are our roof-top sun decks, balconies, covered parking lot, 2 private patios and lawn.
Thetas call 2723 Durant Avenue their home-away-from-home. Located just one block from Berkeley Law School at Boalt Hall and the rest of the Cal campus, we are proud to call this four-story mansion our home in the heart of the Greek community.
1908...
Our first official house, complete with a swimming pool, was built in 1908 by Theta alumna and renowned architect Julia Morgan especially for her Theta sisters. In 1940, the house was rebuilt from the ground up to meet modern structural safety standards by 20th century architect Gardner A. Dailey, where it still stands with pride today. Our home's interior was featured in the April 1946 edition of Architectural Record. Its exterior appeared on the cover of the international Kappa Alpha Theta Magazine.
1950...
By the 1950's, a larger house was needed to accommodate the growing number of Thetas. Construction began in 1956 on an addition to the west side of the house, now known affectionately as "New." Theta alumna Dr. Margaret Alter fondly recollects temporarily moving down a block in to the Hotel Durant during construction of New side, and being so happy to return to a house that can accommodate each and every one of the Theta women who want to live in.
2010...
Today, our chapter house features:
Four floors of bedrooms house over 70 sisters comfortably. We are fortunate to have a dedicated chef, Roger, who once cooked for a cruise ship line, and lovely house mother Betsy who gives great career guidance! Our wonderful Facility Manager works tirelessly to make living in the Theta house a wonderful, enjoyable and memorable experience.
Many changes are happening in the summer of 2010, including a remodeling of the third floor on New side, complete with new carpeting, paint, lighting, and more. We are so proud of our history and legacy at UC Berkeley and look forward to a bright future full of sisterhood and memories!
Our dining room, where formal banquets and scholarship dinners are served.
